I Should Know
Capitol Town
One way ticket to Washington
on a bus to that Capitol town
They said good – bye at the station
to their girl who was Capitol bound
She had her dreams in her pocket book
and fifty dollars was all that she had
To come between her and starvation
and a life that she knew she could have
And a life that she knew she could have.
She rode the bus into Washington,
it took her straight to that Capitol town
It left her off at the station
with not a soul there to show her around
And not a soul there to show her around.
She took a walk down the avenue
on the streets of that Capitol town
She was looking for a boarding house
with a room just to lay her head down.
She pulled a dream from her pocketbook
and put a dollar in a taxi man’s hand.
Can you take me to a boarding house?
The taxi man said you know that I can,
The taxi man said you know that I can.
They took a drive up the avenue
and saw the sights of that Capitol town
And she was glad she had a taxi man
and his taxi there to show her around.
Window sign in a boarding house
said a room for a dollar a day
She turned and smiled at the taxi man
and said I think this is where I can stay,
She said I think this is where I can stay.
He turned around on the avenue,
on the streets of that Capitol town
She said good bye to the taxi man;
he said so long I hope to see you around.

It left her off at the station
with not a soul there to show her around
And not a soul there to show her around
